Carvajal was born in the Spanish town of Leganes in the capital city. He started to build up as a youth player in his early years until he joined Real Madrid Youth squad at the age of 10. That is such a small age even for a youth player in the Real Madrid Youth club.

As he moved up in his ranks, he finally made his move to Real Madrid Castilla in 2010. In his senior years he was booked in the reserve team squad at the number XI playing as a captain. In his first season he played 38 matches and made 2 goals into the post. Failed to made his move in the A team of Real Madrid, he signed a contract with Bayern Leverkusen where he received number of awards and nomination in the first season of Bundesliga.
